A short animation that tells the story of Despacito Art School, an art collective for children aged 5-12+ that makes-up one of the five programme strands at alternative art school Open School East, Margate. The animation was co-designed with Despacito members, and includes the voices of the art collective and their families.
About Open School East
Open School East is a free alternative art school dedicated to making the arts a more diverse, open and accessible sector. Established in 2013, OSE is recognised as one of the leading voices in the development and innovative of alternative arts education and artist-led pedagogies.
About Despacito Art School
Despacito Art School was established in 2017 by Ayaan Bulale, Open School East at the request of children in Cliftonville West who neighboured Open School East's former home at Pettman's Building. Despacito is a project-based programme that offers long term support and regular opportunities for children to take part in hands-on art making as well as showcase their work in public presentations to their families, the local arts community and the broader public. Today, Despacito work as an art collective to help design, research, develop and deliver OSE's wider programmes.
